After many years of discussion, ICANN has finally open up the international playing field to allow the furthering of IDN gtlds.
An obvious example of what will be:
Ownership of новости.com which means, News.com in Russian...will also include новости.ком
a fully translated/transliterated version of the English version of .com
This will also cover several other languages, which have been long available in the English .com version only.
Verisign, the owners of the .com/.net registries has made it be known that they will be going forward with this initiative.
With these historic announcements, we should see a huge increase and interest, in the acquision of IDN.com domain names across most languages.
Availability of companies, or individuals to purchase their own brands, for example .coke or .apple, has also
been approved, going forward.
